| Course Overview: | Provides an in-depth study of the anatomical and physiological foundations of respiration and of the assessment and management of respiratory pathophysiology and distress. Topics include: anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system, respiratory assessment, airway and ventilation management, and respiratory diseases. |
| Desired Learning Outcome: | Upon completion of EMS108, the paramedic student shall demonstrate comprehension of the knowledge base and skill competencies with techniques and procedures relating to advanced airway assessment and management. |
| Instructional Delivery Method | Didactic/lecture presentations with class discussions and practical lab demonstrations are integrated and enhanced by the use of audiovisuals and actual equipment with training devices/manikins. Student participation is encouraged and mandatory in required assignments and practical demonstrations, both individual and group involvement tasks. Attention to safety and hazard reduction/injury prevention is a must! |

| Additional Resources | Student participation in extra-curricular activities, such as the Georgia Association of EMTs, related training, and specialized courses, especially a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructors class, is encouraged. Also, the student is encouraged to utilize the MTI Library and to visit the libraries available to the program, such as those at local hospitals, nearby colleges and universities, and especially the library at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia. Locally, students are encouraged to participate in the MTI Student Government and in the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA). |
