Course Overview: Provides a study of the principles and procedures necessary for the proper use and administration of pharmaceuticals in emergency medical care. Requires general familiarization of various non-emergency and emergency drugs.
Desired Learning Outcome: Upon completion of EMS 106, the paramedic student shall demonstrate comprehension and skill competencies relating to: identification of drugs; drug calculations; drug administration techniques and procedures ; and drug safety and standards.

 

Instructional Delivery Method Didactic/lecture presentations with class discussions and practical lab demonstrations are integrated and enhanced by the use of audiovisuals and actual equipment with training devices/manikins. Student participation is encouraged and mandatory in required assignments and practical demonstrations, both individual and group involvement tasks. Attention to safety and hazard reduction/injury prevention is a must!

 

Pre-requisite EMS-103, EMS-105, and MAT-100 [or equivalent] (Co-requisite)

Additional Resources Student participation in extra-curricular activities, such as the Georgia Association of EMTs, related training, and specialized courses, especially a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor’s class, is encouraged. Also, the student is encouraged to utilize the MTI Library and to visit the libraries available to the program, such as those at local hospitals, nearby colleges and universities, and especially the library at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.
